Longer since I tried to finish the books I got from the children’s book fair in July.

Series 1: Amnesty Alliance for Aliens by Mao Luo (The same person who wrote Hunters of the Nigth)

It was published after Hunters of the Night so only four books are published originally as of now. I find it more interesting than Hunters of the Night but then again it’s to be expected because you can tell that she improved on her writing. It’s about a pirate named Zack who was transported into modern day where the Amnesty Alliance for Aliens took him into the alternate dimension and he starts working for them. The story began with Zack working for the Amnesty for a long time now and rescued a girl named Mia from an orphanage under attack by alien spiders. He ends up adopting her and thus starts their close family relationship. The second book focus on Mia training in magic and medicine. She have struggles in magic because subconsciously she’s blocking her full potential because she’s afraid that she will hurt or kill someone.  In the end she realized that just like a knife it is the wielder who decides whether to use something for good or bad. The end of this book is a huge time skip with Zack and his crew going on a long 2 year trip to the human world on a project. Mia is left at the Amnesty with her magic teacher, Christen. The third book starts when Zack comes back to Amnesty and after an extremely short meeting with Mia is forced to go on a week long mission again. The rest of the book focus on how Mia have changed, becoming one of the top students of the Amnesty academy and skillful in both magic and medicine. Mia and her two friends, resulted from a school project, visited the land where a mysterious disease starts to spread and no one knows that cause of it. Another side news in the Amnesty is about the Skeleton castle which appear and disappear one place or another at any random time. Where ever the castle loom over, death and destruction follows its path. Zack on the other hand is searching on the pirate ship he was originally on. Back to the disease, it cause friendly and kind creatures to become mad and aggressive follow by death.  Just as Mia and company was researching the origin of the disease, an out break happen with another group of creatures in the forest. A war is started by those creature because of the disease and they quickly went to help. Zack and Mia is reunited when Mia called for Zack via a master and contract spell and the skeleton castle appears out of know where while they were spreading new medicine around the forest. With no where left to run Zack and Mia decided to not dying without a fight and dying together so that Mia will never be alone.

En have no choice but to agree thus making his son angry and hate him. Time skip to the week of the inheritance ceremony. Series 3: Kill No More

Left off from the first book Liola have the choice of becoming a king. He refuses of course and decided to stay with his friends. A tournament determining university rankings is taking place and Liola and friends joined by force. At the start of the tournament, Lancelot, the Knight of Light, sealed Liola’s fight magic because he felt that Liola is dangerous. Meanwhile we learn that the dragon king has sent out the world’s most dangerous people to kill Liola and get his son, Babe Li Long, the dragon in contract with Liola back. Because Liola took a vow not to kill he feels that he’s unable to protect his friends and felt that his friends doesn’t really need him in their lives because he caused nothing but trouble. He decided to run away after Lanky yelled at him for not being responsible and causing Babe Li Long to be greatly injured. He ran and meet a man that ask him to enter an arena fight. Winner get tons of money which Liola feel the need to enter because he has none at all. The man actually tricks Liola into joining the main fighting event. Fight to the death with a dragon. And thus it’s to be continued.

Series 4: My Family’s Not Human

A new series from the same publisher as Amnesty Alliance and Wind with Voices. The story is about family who’re actually the reincarnated Satan and his servants. The main character is Fa Tae who’s the only one in the family that haven’t been fully “awaken” yet. His mom is actually Baba Yaga, his dad is a warrior priest, his elder sister is also a female warrior, and his elder brother is a vampire. Furthermore his younger twin brother is actually Satan, and Fa Tae himself is his pet monster! After Satan’s awakening a Egyptian god visits their school in order to eat Satan’s heart, or in this case Fa Tae’s twin brother’s heart who’s the vessel for Satan.  The book ended with the god realizing that Satan have already taken over the vessel and have no choice but to give up because he doesn’t have enough power to fight.

Series 5: GOD

After eons I finally finish. Basically it’s about a demon named Lucia who likes to beautiful and cute things as pets. He meets Shirosaya, a sword man who’s out to kill the man who killed his sensei. Lucia safe his life and agree to help Shiro train to defeat his target. Shiro sees it as an act of good will but Lucia’s actually claiming him as his pet. After months of training Shiro takes on the badass who kill his sensei. It turns out he was actually after the gem that was on his sensei’s sword which actually enhances the user’s powers.  The guy turns into a monster from over using the gem and Lucia have no choice but to save the day. The end. Wasn’t worth reading…

Series 6: Shin-rei

Didn’t blog the first book here I think but I read it a year ago. It’s basically a murder mystery solve by a rich gentlemen name Shina and a sly magician named Revin. This time the theme is boat and Chinese. The murder happening have nothing to do with the main plot. The yacht is hijacked by pirates who was hired to sell the treasures that belonged to the yacht owner. The murder was actually caused by a Maui Thai boxer who was friends with the victims. The cause was revenge on his best friend who killed his secret love, the best friend’s former girlfriend. In the end Shina saves the day by calling the helicopter and the police. Sadly the yacht sink along with treasure it was holding.

The third book is about connected bombing on department stores in Bangkok and a wedding. Shina and his fiancee is invited to a wedding where Revin was invited to perform tricks as entertainment. Shina got called in the middle of the ceremony to help with a message that was delivered to the police about helping a drug dealer get on his flight safely without getting arrested. The message is there will be bombing happening every one hour or so until the agreement have been reached. With Revin’s hint Shina was able to find out the patterned and found the bomb before they go off. Back at the wedding, the bride’s former boyfriend who was framed for killing her father kidnapped her and killed her uncle. There was a high speed chase and the kidnapper and bride died by running the car off the bridge while on fire. At the bride’s funeral Shina suspect that the two didn’t actually died and the bodies found where not their’s.  No one believed this of course but in the epilogue the bride and former boyfriend are already out of country under the disguise of newly married.

Series 7: Garin

Bought this at the last major book fair. Why didn’t I start reading it sooner… It’s hard to find the second and third book because the current in the series is already at book 8. So it’s about Latima the girl who draws evil spirit and Garin the freaky guy obsess with the occult. Weeks after Latima moves to her new school a classmate of hers was found badly burn in the science room that was set on fire. They haven’t found the culprit. Turns out that the most handsome boy in school is in a secret relationship with her. She didn’t want her friends to find out because she’s part in one of those popular girl follow by lacky gang. The other girls bully her into doing stuff for them. Following the next few days a girl from the same group was murdered in the school yard with teethes yanked out. Then another girl was found with all her hair pulled out. Latima felt like Garin has something to do with it and confronted him. He says that his occult book was missing and the missing body parts of the girls are similar to ingredient for a beautification spell in that same book.  Garin ask Latima to join in a “game” to see if she can stop the culprit before the ritual is finished. All the clues pointed back to the handsome boyfriend and somehow Latima was able to stop the real culprit to kill the next victim. Latima confronts the culprit at school where it all began. Turns out the real culprit is actually the girl who was burned in the science room. In truth the leader of their gang wanted to get Garin in trouble so they planned to set the science room and fire and leave the book to blame him but she got caught on fire and no one helped her. She wanted revenge for those girls who bullied her and wanted to become beautiful to be with her boyfriend. Latima’s blood is used as the last sacrifice for the ritual. The ritual ends up backfiring because she didn’t follow the instructions closely enough. She ends up died in her boyfriend’s arms and Latima who was used as the last sacrifice was saved.

Series 8: Rin-Shin-Rei

Two series into one. It’s pretty interesting. The third (not including Latima who was forced by Garin to come with him) was invited to a mansion in order to solve a mysterious puzzle game set up by the owner. Along with Shina, Revin, Garin, and Latima is a former vice president for the owner’s former company, a well known detective, and a mother looking for her son whom she believed was kidnapped by the mansion owner. Surprisingly no one died until the end. They solve a bunch of puzzles (well most Shina did everything) and complete the ritual into summoning the dead. The mother isn’t actually the son’s biological mother but his aunt. His real father is the owner’s only son, and his real mother is her sister. The two died in a car crash while leaving the mansion during a rain storm. Turns out the owner regretted that his last meeting with his son ended with an unsolved argument and wanted to bring back his and his wife dead spirit to see him and his grandson. The grandfather died protecting his grandson while parts of the mansion was destroyed. All in all even though Latima was crushed by piles of rock she still survive and she saw every thing that happen between the two. Shina doesn’t believe her of course because to him there’s no such thing as magic and Revin believes that in the end everything is just an illusion except for death.  Garin just argues with Shina that the occult does exist. Revin just settle the matters with telling the gang that as long as you believe in what you believe it will be true.

Thus ends the Thai books. I’m currently reading Hunters of the Night 2 and No Hero 5 right now.
